6-17-20 off to Panama City Beach by way of Providence Canyon State Park---

Angie said they hoped to be heading out around 9am, so that's about the time Ken and I took off.  Fortunately this was as close as we had to get to the city of Atlanta.

Most of the way looked like this---actually quite pretty.   And not very much traffic.
Since Providence Canyon was along the way, we decided to meet up with Angie, Josh and Layla there.
We got there about an hour before they did, so I took a hike while Ken sat by the vending machines.
I had been to the canyon once before, but didn't have time to walk down to the canyon floor.  Since we were an hour ahead of the kids, I decided to wander down there.
It was pretty, but by the time I got down there, I figured I didn't have time to take the 1.5 hour hike into the canyon and back.  I was rather disappointed that you couldn't tell you were in a canyon at the bottom.
So I decided to hike back up.  Figured it would take me longer then going down and the kids would be arriving soon.
love shadows on the trail
this doesn't show it, but it was a pretty steep grade
I got back to the top just before the kids arrived.  I told them the views were better from the rim then from down below and Layla would want to be carried up.  So we went to the rim and checked out the nature.
Like a dead copperhead!
and pretty little wild flowers.
Layla was fascinated
Definitely a beautiful sight.

The look of amazement and wonder!
Back on the road.  Still had about 3 hours to go.  LOVED the clouds!
and not much traffic most of the way
These state highways went through lots of quaint little towns.  Loved the paintings on the walls in this little town.
Finally got to Wyndham and got checked in---slowly as ever.  I had requested the highest floors for both our upper condo and Angie and Josh's "lower" condo.  Lower levels go to the 10th floor and that's what they got.  We got 23.  I'm not sure there are any 1 bedrooms on 24 and 25---their balconies look different.  But 23 was certainly high enough!  Loved the view from our condo.
Loved our condo, too!  For a 1 bedroom, it was quite large with 2 bathrooms and bunk beds in the hallway.  It also had a fold out couch, so the 1 bedroom deluxe slept 6.
I meant to take more pictures inside the unit, but it seems I didn't!
Took plenty from the balcony, though.
Layla loved being out there as much as I did.
No fear of heights for her!
looking almost straight down
love the colors of the water and beach.
great views of sunset, too!  Picked up some bar b q for dinner and ate dinner with the kids.  Then enjoyed a beautiful sunset.
Day 1 almost done.  So glad to be at the beach again!!!!!  how I missed it!
