2013 Wowwie Maui!!!!
After years of trying to get Ken to go to Maui, he finally agreed to go. I had been there twice before, first with my Dad and another time with my sister, but neither of them are snorkelers. Maui has a reputation for much better snorkeling then Kauai. I was anxious to see if that was really true! Ken thought it would be more crowded and more of a party island. We were fortunate to have the trade winds with it's low humidity the whole time we were there. Kona winds were expected soon after we left. I had planned on going to Lanai, but the snorkeling was so good on Maui that we didn't bother going there (this time)---plus there were small boat warnings much of the time we were there.
Note about my cameras: above ground-Canon 60D; underwater-Canon D20

I'm pretty sure we will be returning to Maui. I wasn't sure if hubby would like Maui because it's busier then Kauai, but he really did. In fact, he seems to like it more then Kauai. He liked that there were more snorkel beaches right next to each other so if one was full, we could quickly go to another one. As for the snorkeling being better then Kauai, that would be a yes. But Kauai has the edge on being prettier on land.
Next year when we're in Kauai we'll probably be missing Maui!
Great photos! I'm curious what kind of camera did you use for your underwater shots?
ReplyDeleted20 canon. Thanks!
DeleteJust found your blog this morning and so I spent part of my Easter reading your entire blog!!! So impressed with the photos! We will be going to Maui and the Big Island in six weeks for a once in a lifetime trip (maybe!!!). I have to reread your blog and take notes this time on places to eat. Saw a few dishes I need to try. Thanks for a great read!

Hope you enjoyed your trip as much as we did! I originally thought Hawaii was a once in a lifetime trip--about 20 trips ago!
DeleteI'm really enjoying your blog. Heading to Kapalua in May/June and your photos have really gotten me even more excited than I already was. Sounds like you and your husband really enjoy life. Great for you!! Hope the rest of your Maui vacation is equally fabulous.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm sure you'll love Maui---how could you not!!!???
DeleteThank you for capturing the green flash in a picture!! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteThey really do exist.
They were pretty plentiful this trip.
DeleteSuch a great blog and I'm bummed your vacation is almost over! Now what am I going to read each morning when I come into work? I'll miss my Maui escape. Only 8 more months... :) Thank you for sharing your wonderful trip and pictures!
ReplyDeleteNot as bummed as I am!
DeleteLove your blog and photos! My husband and I are going to Maui in May and probably love snorkeling almost as much as you do. I'd love to hear what your top 5 places for snorkeling are. We only have 5 nights!
ReplyDeleteMy top 5 would probably be: Honolua; Kapalua; mm14; Ahihi;and Maluaka. But I enjoyed everywhere we snorkeled and more then once we ended up somewhere other then where we planned to go. If we didn't find a parking spot, we moved on to the next place.
DeleteThanks so much, they are on my list!
DeleteHow was your trip? Did you feel the same way I did about the snorkeling?
DeleteThank you so much for attaching this link from the Worldmark site.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your pictures and blog so much. My husband and I will be going to Maui in September for out 30th wedding anniversary and your blog has gotten me even more excited to be going. My son and his girlfriend will be going with us also so I think I will send the link to them to enjoy also. Thanks again beautiful pictures
What a great way to spend your anniversary! You'll have a great time. Don't know if you're staying at Worldmark Kihei, but it's probably the nicest place we've stayed on all the Hawaiian islands.
DeleteWhat a great blog! My wife and I are taking our 4 year old twin boys and 6 month old baby girl to stay at the Worldmark Kihei next year (Dec 2014) for 2.5 weeks. I was worried the beach right across the street wouldn't be good for swimming (we stay shallow for the kids) but the sand looks great and not too rocky. Does the WM Kihei have a children's pool?
ReplyDeleteWow, been awhile since I checked on my comments!! Sorry. I really don't remember if there was a children's pool there. The beach across the street is really nice! We even saw some little ones playing along the shoreline.
Deletewow thanks for the great blog and photos, I would love to know more about your camera. I have a canon too but how did you manage to protect it for underwater photos? also did you bring your own snorkeling equipment or you rent it there? thanks and we are hoping to piece together a 11 day trip in July 2014
ReplyDeleteBernadette
The Canon I used for the underwater photos was the P&S D30. I sometimes I get confused and refer to it as the 30D, which is a dslr (which I also have), but it doesn't get near the water. Unfortunately I've since drowned my D30 and am now using a Oympus tg-830 and have been very happy with it, too (plus it was about $100 cheaper). We bring our own snorkel equipment ---even on our cruises. Good luck piecing your trip together!
Deletethank you so much for sharing your trip with us, it made it seem like we where there with you and your husband. It gave us a lot of things to do when we go to maui in October. We have been to maui twice and I just love this island
